How the planner works

A week has 168 hours. The planner adds up the hours you enter, then estimates school time as about 1 hour in class plus 2 hours of outside work per credit, per week, which is the common reading of the federal credit-hour definition for a standard semester. You can switch to 1.5 or 3 hours of outside work for lighter or harder courses.

Credits your week can carry is what’s left after your commitments and the personal time you want to keep, divided by the hours per credit.

What it can’t tell you: real courses vary, weeks aren’t all alike (exams, sick kids, overtime), and accelerated 8-week terms pack a semester’s work into half the time. Build in slack. See making school fit around work and family.
